The aim of this article is to answer some premises that were put forward by the book The Secret, and based on a conversation I had with an author friend of mine.
As most of you would remember easily, the book – and the concept – was about the law of attraction. From various sources, from my observance, and from my own experiences, I can confidently tell you that the law of attraction is real, and one of the basic principles of the Universe, as solid as the gravity.
However, the main problem with the book – and the concept presented in the book – is that the authors show it as if we could use the principle like a piece of cake. Well, we can use the principle, yes, but it’s a natural law as independent from human existence as gravity. So, just like we can make use of gravity, we can only make use of it; but we can never direct, or manipulate it as we wish.
Now, keeping all what we covered so far in mind, let’s examine some of the premises that were put forward by the book The Secret.
Answer: This premise is actually a twisted version of macro philosophy that comes from karmic belief. Spiritualism, drawing from the belief of reincarnation, tells that a spirit can take various roles in various lifetimes, so it can experience everything. However, metaphysical resources inform us that karmas have been reset during the last quarter of 20th century, so we are responsible for our “intentions” since then.
Considering that these great religions don’t accept the belief of reincarnation, looking at the premise from the point of one lifetime, even spiritualism doesn’t see this premise as valid, because while it’s true that your intentions will lead you through your life, it’s limited to individual limits. If your intentions will influence the lives of masses, and not in harmony with the universal plan of God, you find yourselves empty handed.
I’m not saying the intentions don’t matter. OPPOSITE! They’re half of the every matter! However, you should take the actions to harmonize yourself with your own soul, and the spiritual frequencies so that your intentions will be STRONGER!
Answer: That’s interesting. Then why do I still drive an ordinary sedan instead of a Ferrari Enzo? Well, it’s true that spiritualism tells us that we attract everything we have in life, and it’s a universal principle. (No, I’m not conflicting with myself, just keep reading.) However, you can only determine the qualities, not the specifics, and again, you can’t do it deliberately. Therefore, while it’s mental visualization is extremely important for developing positive and auspicial intentions, it’s not everything, either. Moreover, regardless how bad you want something, unless you act through a good intention for yourself and everyone, you can’t manifest it in life. In another word, your reason of wish is much more important than what you want as I always try to emphasize.
On the other hand, you can never know how universal dynamics will respond you. While you wish for something with positive intentions, and if it’s accepted by Heavens, it may be delivered to you much more differently, and with much higher quality than you originally asked for. Or, in opposite, your wish might be seen as too “childish” or “egoistic,” you can be taught a good “lesson” about it, too.
Based on something I can only describe as “spiritual logic,” I also would like to remind you that time doesn’t exist in spiritual realm. This means, you may try to manifest your wishes to your hardest efforts, and it can be given to you by the spiritual world, but you may get them a decade from now, because there’s no difference between 1 second and 10 years in the spiritual dimension.
Premise: “What do you think the reason is 96 percent of the money is earned by 1 percent of the global population? Because they know the secret!” “To attract money to yourself, focus on the notion of wealth! You have to convince yourself that you already have the amount of money you want!” “Imagine yourself living in abundance; you will see that you attract it to yourself. That’s so simple!”
Answer: My a..! Then it means 80 percent of the mankind is idiot, because they didn’t understand such a simple fact for millennia! You can create the abundance awareness through positive intentions, and you can see your needs are met in incredible ways by universal dynamics. However, you can never say the Universe, “Hey, give me 100,000 dollars, man!” I remember there was such a claim in the book: the authors said, “write a one million dollar check for yourself, and you will get it!” Huh?!! Come again? And the angels will ask me “Do you want it as American Dollars, or Australian?” Right? Are you kidding me? These terms are ONLY for this world! Leave the spiritual world aside, even an E.T. wouldn’t understand what you mean with “one million dollar check!” So, you can ask for material help ONLY in general terms as ABUNDANCE!
Personally, what I do in a situation of need is, first to clear my mind of all the worries about the situation, to try to see the spiritual reasons and lessons behind that situation (because, whatever the problem you face is, there’s always a spiritual lesson that you have to learn behind it), then while doing my best to solve it, to leave the “how” part to the Heavens. I’m telling you confidently that – even if not at that moment, but afterwards – I was never disappointed. However, once again, the intention is the key.
Premise: “You are the most powerful magnet all around the universe. The magnetic energy you have is much more potent than anything on this planet. And what spreads this incredible power of attraction is your thoughts.” “One creates his own universe.”
Answer: I can accept this: Focusing your mind on deprivation brings more deprivation, because when you do this, you shake your faith in God, and thus, build a wall between yourself and Him. However, you do this because you shut your eyes and yourself to the opportunities He gives you, not because you’re not given.
Unfortunately, almost in every religions, since holy men claim that the way to God goes through them, and since they keep their authority they have over people, the notion of deprivation is emphasized deliberately. And in parallel with this approach, God is always shown as a judge, who is ready to punish you at the slightest failure. The truth is that, with our worldly minds, we can’t even grasp the extent of the love He has for us. In fact, creating abundance, love, mercy and trust in your life is all about your point of view about life and your experiences; if you see all the hardships or unfortunate occurrences in your life as “lessons” that will improve your spiritual growth, instead of “punishments,” both you quicken your growth, and accept the things you long for much more easily.
For instance, if you think “people don’t like me,” you see all those people who dislike you everywhere. But it’s not because you attract them only, but also because you only see them due to your way of thinking. And in popular psychology, there is a term used to describe this equation: “Perceptual selectivity.”
Answer: Well, I think this thought is wrongly phrased. Of course, it’s up to you to have an elderly, sluggish, lazy energy, instead of a young, dynamic, and excited one… at least, up to a point. However, this is not spiritual, but psychological AND physical. If you insist on negative thoughts, you walk into depression, and naturally, you feel much older than real, unwilling, and stagnant. On the other hand, when you embrace the life with passion, the light that comes from your inner self spreads outwards, and you may appear younger than you are, but this, again, can be physical only up to a point. You may try to erase the lines that years put on your face, getting help from plastic surgery; you may keep your energy levels high through exercising regularly; you may keep your quality of life high, taking good care of your health. However, what matters is not how you appear from outside, but how you feel within; when it comes to age, the real message is delivered by the gleam in your eyes, and your aura, not the looks of your face and body.
Answer: An example for how you can phrase such an important and special subject in a very wrongly way. I’d like to examine this premise in three parts:
“Do whatever you like doing.” I think this could be phrased in a better way, if we say “focus on the natural talents you were given when you were born.” Everybody has a personal way of life, which ancient Indians called as dharma. You can gather the clues looking at your unique talents and personality traits, which you were born with. What were the things you used to do during your childhood, without concerning about making money, becoming famous, getting respect? What could you do best, which others seemed not to be able to do as good as you? These are the details that will give you clues about your dharma. And the truth is that when you follow your dharma, and do it with good intentions, you can’t believe how the doors open for you along the way. But take this advice from me: You can’t determine what doors they would be.
“Whatever you choose will be the right one.” Fortunately it doesn’t work that way, or probably I would be a hitman now, because one can make his or her choices through anger, and frankly, I spent quite a good part of my life in a very angry mood. I wanted to get revenge for the pain of being an outcast during my adolescence; I hated almost every living soul around me. And I was doing what I did just to prove myself and show others “who I was.” Thus, many wishes of mine didn’t come true, or more to the point, weren’t allowed to happen, because my intentions, or reasons, were simply wrong. At the other hand, when I choose to do whatever I do just for the sake of learning, improving myself, helping others, creating value, and just enjoying it all, forgiving all those who bullied me around, turning my anger into positive energy, and thus, productivity, even I couldn’t believe what happened in time. Of course these didn’t happen overnight, but the result was – with one word – a miracle. Years later, some people who knew my adolescence would ask me often, “Hey, what happened to you? You don’t seem like the same person anymore?” Therefore, this principle may be phrased this way much better: “When you choose the right things with right intentions, they will bring much better outcomes than you expected in the first place.”
“The power is completely yours!” Wow! I loved this! Whoever said this, he should be thinking himself He-Man or something, and even he gets his power from the Shadows. Joke aside, you can find or learn the ways of harnessing the universal power, but that power never belongs to you. And if you mess it up, if you don’t know how to harness it positively, then you’re in “deep shit!” On the other hand, if the power were ours completely, world would be a much worse asylum than it already is, because using such a power aside, even acquiring it would be enough to drive you crazy. No, we can only be a channel to manifest the results of such a universal power in physical realm, and we can do it only as long as our intentions are in harmony with the universal plan. For instance, Hitler was one of those with the highest score of killing in the history of mankind; however, despite all the violence, massacre, and horror he unleashed in Nazi Germany during the World War II, it was also a great lesson of compassion and peace for the mankind. As you can see all around Europe today, all the Europeans are afraid of going back to those days. So, even if Hitler is known by many as a monster, from this point of view, he also seems to have carried a universal mission. According to the karmic philosophy, it’s possible that all those people, who have died or suffered incredibly during the Holocaust, might have chosen such experiences before they were born, and this – that before we are born, we choose what we will experience through the life we will have – is a belief that I share, too. However, if we think this example as a drama that delivers a very strong humanism message from the stage, Hitler wasn’t the playwright, or the director, but simply one of the actors. The drama was written and directed by the Creator.
Well, as a conclusion to our argument here, I’d like to tell you that I don’t know what The Secret is all about, other than a scheme for fast money making in my opinion. However, I can give you one true secret of life here after all what we discussed above:
You reap what you sow! So be careful with – first – your intentions, and – second – actions, because even if you act wrong but with good intentions, God will always know what you were after, and trust me, I know it from experience, when it comes to what you attract in life, you will be judged accordingly.
