Speciesism means exploiting other species and categorizing them as various species based on the assumption of superiority of the mankind. Do you think it’s normal not to be sensitive about the sheep, lambs, cattle, chickens or other animals that we exploit for their meat and by-products, while being all emotional and compassionate for the pet ones we have at home, like cats or dogs? Do you think they’re not tamed? Jonathan Safran Foer says in his books Eating Animals, “The French sometimes eat their horses while they love their dogs. The Spaniards sometimes eat their cattle while they love their horses. What animals do you love and what animals do you eat?”
As the way we look at human slavery today, we might soon say “These animals were used as slaves for every purposes, and our ancestors used to eat these animals. How terrible!” You can see the documentary Earthlings to see how our species exploit others.
You Reap What You Sow
Behind the emotions of uncontrollable violence and anger, or fear of death is the consumption of animal meat. The fear animal feels at the moment of death, violence it has to endure, and all those negative emotions cause the same kind of emotions come out in a person who consumes the meat of that animal. Animals have nervous systems just like humans do, and they experience pain and all. Mankind inflicts such pain in the animals through mass murder, and it continues feeling the same pain. We reap what we sow. We can’t look beyond or ignore this fact. Yes, we are different than animals – we look different, we act differently, we live differently, but we all come together to form a whole. On the other hand, as human beings, we’re never superior to them, and we don’t need to exploit, torture, or kill animals to live, to feed, or to have fun!
The methods used in livestock industry to increase the profits and productivity are absolutely heartless! The hormones and antibiotics used on animals get mixed into the meat or by-products of animals, and reach into our bodies through consumption. These are among the principal causes for many of our modern diseases… The environments these animals are bred and forced to live are a completely different story… Thus, stress in such animals intensifies, their immune systems collapse, and they cause terminal diseases in humans. Anthrax is only one of those diseases. Of course, the point is not to provide better conditions for the livestock while making money out of them just to be sold for consumption by humans, but to end this slavery and exploitation. Even the health authorities confirm that many of immune system or chronic diseases are caused by the consumption of animal meat. Such food products create an acidic environment inside the human body, while forcing it into a never ending effort to regain the balance,
and causing various diseases. For instance, our body uses the calcium inside the bones to balance the acidic condition within caused by dairy products, and this causes osteoporosis, or joint diseases. For humans, breast milk provides different nutritional benefits every month, and this aims for the development of the baby. In the same way, an animal’s milk is for the same purpose for its own baby, and not suitable for human body. And just like it is in humans, animals give milk only after they give birth, but they are forced to be pregnant all the time so that they can produce milk. Since they are milked continuously, it creates inflammations and wounds around the breasts of such animals. These are treated with medications. Therefore, while the animal’s milk is not suitable for human body, now it comes added with high amounts of hormones, antibiotics, etc.
On the other hand, repulsion is the natural reaction to a food that is potentially hazardous. For instance, the pregnant women, sick people, or kids might quite often develop repulsion against animal products, but that never happens with vegetables or fruit. The real reason for this is the natural defense mechanism of the body. There are many clinic researches that show the relations between animal products and various diseases. Journal of the American Osteopathic Association (May 2016) presented the results of 6 comprehensive researches, showing meat consumption causes many chronic diseases, including coronary diseases and various types of cancer. Journal of the American College of Nutrition (July 25th, 2016) published a work that examined scientific articles on the connection of nutrition to early dementia. Results: Alzheimer was seen most commonly among those who consume red meat, and egg or oily dairy products (like cheese and yoghurt) come after that. In return, vegetables, fruit and whole grain were shown to have affects to decrease the risk of Alzheimer. For men, prostates, lungs, bowels are at risk; for women, breast cancer is the most common type of cancer. Consumption of meat and dairy products increase the risk for such health problems.
Journal of Nutrition published a research held on 456 female kids between 8 to 10 years of age, and they were observed for around 5 to 6 years of time. It was shown that as the consumption of red meat increased, they tend to begin with their menstruation much earlier. Another negative side of early menstruation is the increase of the risk of breast cancer. Such girls also tend to have obesity and heart problems in the future.
